Holly Hunter, an American actress and film producer is known for her acclaimed performance in films such as Broadcast News The Firm The Piano The Incredibles. Her work has been recognized with numerous awards, like an Oscar for her role in the film Piano. The successful actress began her career as an actor in the theatre with an array of Broadway and Off-Broadway shows. As a child, Helen Keller was her favourite character in a fifth year production. The mumps caused her to lose her hearing in one of her ear canals, but that was not enough to stop the actress from pursuing her dream. She studied drama at college after which she moved between Pittsburgh and moved to New York City to follow her dreams. Hunter was trapped in the elevator of playwright Beth Henley when she met her. They worked together to write Broadway Crimes of the Heart which marked Hunter's Broadway debut. After moving into Los Angeles, Hunter tried to find film roles. The role of a supporting actress was secured in Swing Shift. In the three decades since she was a part of the film, Holly Hunter has been featured in a variety of series and television films. Holly Hunter was awarded a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star as well as the Women in Film Lucy Award.
